Here's a modern take on a traditional planter style. The rustic-looking barrel is made of solid wooden staves bound by steel hoops, but instead of a wooden base, it's fitted with a rot-proof plastic bottom.
To promote healthy root growth, the perforated bottom permits good soil aeration and drainage, while the molded base creates a space underneath, allowing airflow to help prevent trapped moisture.
18" in diameter by 13 1/4" high, it is made of sustainably harvested cedar or fir (depending on supply). Well constructed for years of service, this is an attractive and effective planter.
