These Blum hinges set the standard for European-style hinges. Not only are they easy to quickly install, but they remain hidden when the door is closed. Hinges are spring-loaded with two rest positions, fully open or fully closed. They are nickel plated for a clean, rust-proof finish.
The arm of the Modul hinge is secured to the mounting plate with a single screw. This screw also controls door depth adjustment. The hinge is adjustable in three dimensions, and is a good choice for applications where you will not be removing the doors or want to prevent doors from being removed without tools (e.g., public places or children’s furniture).
Aside from the obvious difference in opening angles, there can be additional reasons for choosing one hinge opening over another, as the door takes a different path on opening. These hinges are available with two maximum opening angles (95° and 170°). As you might imagine, the 170° hinge is considerably more complicated mechanically than the one that just opens 95°. The 170° hinges will let the doors fully clear the cabinet interior, but can create a pinch hazard for small fingers, as the gap between door and carcass is larger.
Both are intended for use on doors from 16mm to 22mm (5/8"to 7/8") thick. The 35mm (1 3/8") diameter hinge cup, which is mounted on the door, is 12mm (1/2") deep. Hinge cups are all metal. The 95° hinges are adjustable ±3mm vertically, ±2mm horizontally and ±2mm in depth after installation.
Once the hinge is installed, the exposed adjustment screws can be covered with optional steel caps, available separately.
