Q: What materials can I use for the insert plug?
You can use a matching or contrasting wood plug, or a plug of Corian, tagua or a similar material, whichever suits the piece.

Getting the right hardware for a piece can be as difficult as building it. These solid brass knobs can be customized to complement any piece. The insert can be of the same or contrasting wood or of Corian, tagua, etc. (The great advantage of tagua is that it can be dyed any color you want.)
Just cut a plug of the material to be used, glue it into the knob, and then shape the knob using either a bolt or our special mandrel (available separately) to hold it in a hand drill, drill press or lathe. A quick coat of finish (poly tung oil works well) and you have a custom knob that is also tarnish-proofed.
The smaller knobs with outside diameters of 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8" require 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" plugs respectively. Larger-diameter knobs in 3/4", 7/8" and 1 1/8" diameters require 5/8", 3/4" and 1" plugs respectively.
All knobs come with a 6-32 × 7/8" flat-head screw for through-hole mounting. For blind-hole mounting, brass inserts and set screws are available separately.
