Q: What size hole saw do I need to install this?
A 4 × 4 post anchor needs a 1 1/4" hole saw, and a 6 × 6 anchor needs a 1 3/4" hole saw to bore the pilot channel.

This excellent hardware for deck and porch railings is easy to install, unobtrusive and extremely strong, and also helps prevent moisture damage.
Each all-steel anchor consists of a formed base welded to a hollow shaft that is embedded in the post end. Just cut a pilot channel with a hole saw, drive the shaft in (it's bevelled for easy insertion) and screw the base down. Only the base shows, leaving a tidy, finished look.
The connection is exceptionally strong since the shaft stiffens the join and is supported by wood inside and out. The base leaves space for air circulation and blocks water from wicking into end grain, preventing rot. Finished in an all-weather epoxy coat suitable for ACQ-treated lumber.
The anchors are for nominal 4 × 4 and 6 × 6 stock; the 4 × 4 anchor requires a 1 1/4" hole saw, and the 6x6 anchor requires a 1 3/4" hole saw.
To simplify installation, we offer an optional guide separately that registers on the corner of the post to accurately center the hole saw.
