Tansu Split-Pin Handle

Tansu (the Japanese word for “trunk”) refers to a variety of trunks, chests, boxes and storage cabinetry popular in Japan from about 1650 to 1920. Combining the skills of the cabinetmaker, blacksmith and lacquer artist, Tansu can run the gamut from simple unadorned cabinetry to ornate chests using 100 or more pieces of hardware.

A traditional design, this inexpensive die-cast handle has steel escutcheons and split pins.

Mounted through an undersized punched or drilled hole, the pins trap the handle. Pin ends are bent to hold the hardware in place (much like a box staple).

Finished black. Measures 44mm wide by 26mm high; maximum recommended material thickness is 3/8”.
