Description

André Roubo's 18th-century French text, L'Art du Menuisier, is a widely respected source on European woodworking techniques of the pre-industrial era. The follow-up to Roubo on Marquetry, this extraordinary book is the second in a series of selected materials reprinted from Roubo's original four-volume treatise.

Depicting a tremendous range of subjects related to various woodworking trades, from construction carpentry and furniture making to carriage building, millwork and much more, it presents high-resolution reproductions of all 382 original engraved plates. The illustrations are the same size as Roubo's originals, rendered with outstanding print quality on heavy-gauge paper and Smyth sewn in a clothbound cover.

The book includes brief commentary by Chris Schwarz and Don Williams, as well as a translation of the original list of plates. A richly detailed view of the craft of woodworking as it was practiced over two centuries ago.

Hardcover, 10" × 14", 472 pages, 2014.

Other books in this series are available separately.
