These are completely new bits of a design that has never been offered for sale before.
Our regular Forstner bits have been on back order for 3 years now – much to our embarrassment. As our current bit supplier became less and less reliable, we knew we had to develop an alternative.
To make these bits, we’ve had to design our own CNC production equipment and have it manufactured. We have now established a completely automated CNC production line with robotic handling to produce these bits. They are superbly machined and have high-speed steel (HSS) heads that will not burn and lose their temper in use.
However, these bits are slightly different from the ones we’ll be offering in the future. You will notice there’s a small, sharpened edge at the top of the ramp leading to each radial cutter. It serves no purpose and is an artifact left from extra material in our pre-production molds. Like a vestigial tail, it looks odd but is harmless.
The price for these bits is discounted substantially from the bits we will offer this fall.
