Reproduced from a design patented by Joseph Marshall in 1877, this compact, versatile tool elegantly combines the functions of a square, bevel, depth gauge and center finder.

The 6" stainless-steel rule slides and pivots in the head, allowing it to be adjusted for both projection and angle. A brass thumbscrew locks the rule at the chosen length and at any angle from 22.5° to 90°, so it can be used for checking square, transferring angles or taking depth measurements.

The 3 3/4" wide base is machined flat for stable registration against a workpiece, and the two 45° arms form a 90° cradle for locating the center of round stock. The rule is graduated  in 32nds along one edge, 64ths along the other and in millimetres on the opposite face, with crisply engraved markings that are black-filled for legibility.

Reflecting the tool’s Victorian-era origin, the decorative webbing between the arms has a matte black japanned finish.

More than just an irresistible design, it is a practical layout tool that’s a real pleasure to use.
