Q: Why do tapered blades work better in wooden planes?
A tapered blade held by a wooden wedge only wedges tighter when it meets resistance, which keeps it from slipping the way a parallel blade might.

Tapered blades hold their position more securely in wooden planes. When held by a wooden wedge, any resistance encountered by the blade only serves to wedge it tighter in the throat, preventing slippage.
These 6" long blades are 3/16" thick at the bevel, reducing chatter, and taper to 1/16". Available in three widths, they are made of O1 high-carbon tool steel hardened to Rc58-60 and are lapped flat on the face.

A tapered blade held by a wooden wedge only wedges tighter when it meets resistance, which keeps it from slipping the way a parallel blade might.
Three widths: 1 7/8", 2 1/8" and 2 3/8", so you can match the blade to your plane body.
O1 high-carbon tool steel, hardened to Rc58-60, which takes and holds a good edge while remaining straightforward to resharpen.
It's lapped flat at the factory, so these Veritas tapered plane blades are ready to bed against the plane without additional flattening.
Only if the plane's throat and wedge are sized for a tapered blade of this width; check your plane's original blade dimensions before ordering a replacement.
