About Veritas seconds: this stock of our medium shoulder plane (05P4171) has some minor cosmetic flaw – a scratch, a pit in the casting or tiny blemishes – but the plane is functionally perfect. Quantities of seconds are limited and expected to sell out quickly.
A shoulder plane (a specialized rabbet plane) is the ultimate tool for trimming a joint to a perfect fit. At 7" long by 11/16" wide, the Veritas medium shoulder plane is proportioned for versatility; it is useful for trimming end grain, cross-grain paring of tenon shoulders or for rebating work along the grain. If you have ever held a traditional shoulder plane, you will appreciate how this plane comes to hand.
