Q: Which blade material should I choose?

Replacement blades for Veritas ball-joint scrapers are available in high-carbon steel (HCS) and carbide. The 3" × 3" × 1/16" HCS blade comes with one edge bevelled. The 2" long carbide blade requires a specially designed holder and both edges can be used. You might want to round the corners a bit on both blade styles (depending on your use) to avoid sharp transition lines between adjacent passes.
