Crown M42 Bowl Gouges

Quantity:

Widely used in metal machining, M42 high-speed steel is also an excellent material for wood-turning tools. The “M” refers to molybdenum, which provides strength and toughness, but what really sets this alloy apart is the addition of 10% cobalt, allowing it to be hardened to a much greater degree than other HSS alloys. Additionally, these tools are cryogenically treated to further toughen them to prevent brittleness. The resulting tools take an excellent edge and are highly durable, making for clean cuts and less-frequent sharpening.

Designed for face-plate work, these bowl gouges have deep flutes and steep bevels to remove material quickly and cleanly. Significantly longer than spindle gouges for increased leverage, they have 10" blades milled from rod stock, and 16" black-lacquered ash handles fitted with copper ferrules. Hardened to Rc66-69.

Made by Crown in Sheffield, England, they are finely finished and come with a lifetime guarantee.
