A headstock with a 7/8" × 14 tpi or #1 3/4" × 16 tpi thread size requires a #1 Morse taper; a headstock with a 1" × 8 tpi or 1 1/4" × 8 tpi thread size requires a #2 Morse taper. A 5/8” plain headstock does not require a Morse taper.
