05L1601 - Tool Chest Plan

A traditional tool chest plan using frame-and-panel construction. The top tool well is 4 1/2" deep. The eight drawers have tongue-and-rabbet joinery running over traditional hardwood slides. Spring pins lock the front cover in position and the lid in turn can be locked. Built using all standard hardware (not included), except for the spring pins, which are available separately. One half sheet of 1/8" plywood plus 15 board ft. of hardwood are required. Overall size is 25" × 10 1/2" × 15 3/4" high.

The top tool well is 4 1/2" deep and is designed for tools that need to be accessible quickly without opening drawers – chisels, screwdrivers, marking gauges and similar hand tools.
Spring pins lock the front cover in position. The lid can also be locked separately, providing two levels of closure for the chest.
The plan calls for half a sheet of 1/8" plywood and 15 board feet of hardwood, plus standard hardware available from most hardware stores.
The completed chest measures 25" wide × 10 1/2" deep × 15 3/4" high – sized to sit on a bench or shelf, or in a vehicle.
