Panel Raising Bit for Shaker-Style Doors

This bit was designed at the request of Chris Becksvoort, an authority on Shaker design and construction methods.

The Shakers often made raised panels with a simple, slightly bevelled rabbet, and then assembled the door with the raised portion of the panel facing the cabinet interior. The result appealed to the Shakers, as it made a door panel which was both easy to build and easy to keep clean.

This flush-panel bit creates a door in a modern interpretation of the clean, simple lines used by the Shakers. It has a 1/2" shank and makes a 1/2" rabbet up to 1/2" deep with a flat 22° bevel. Bit diameter is 1 15/16".

Our professional/industrial grade bits have tungsten carbide inserts ground on CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machines using 600x diamond wheels. Tungsten carbide maintains its hardness at high temperatures and holds an edge far longer than high-carbon or high-speed steels. The bit bodies have a non-stick coating for easy resin removal.

For better safety, this bit should be used only in a router table equipped with a fence and not used free hand.

Includes an advanced polymer friction-fit holder that can be mounted horizontally or upright.

This bit uses a 1/2” × 3/16” replacement bearing (available separately).
