Bloom strength measures the gel strength of hide glue – a higher number means a stronger, stiffer gel. This granular hide glue is rated at 260g± Bloom, making it one of the stronger options. Higher Bloom strength also means a shorter open time, so it gels quickly once applied.
Granular hide glue at 260g± Bloom is suited for assemblies where maximum strength is the priority and the joint can be fitted quickly. For veneering or complex assemblies requiring more working time, pearl hide glue (150g± Bloom) would be a better choice as it gels more slowly.
Granular hide glue is a dry product that must be dissolved in water and heated in a glue pot before application. It is used the same way as pearl hide glue, following traditional hot-hide-glue technique.
