Indian Ebony (Diospyros ebenum) – Heartwood is lustrous black or very dark brown, sometimes with slightly lighter-colored streaks. It is hard and primarily straight grained with a fine, even texture, but irregular grain may occur in some pieces. Although it dulls tools quickly and is generally considered hard to work, it turns and polishes beautifully.
Sized for small turnings, this blank can also be useful when you need only a small amount of wood, such as for inlays, plugs, splines or other decorative accents.
