Q: How much clamping force does it provide?
This quick release vise delivers up to 400 lb of force through the Acme-threaded screw, whether you're clamping a workpiece together or spreading it apart.
05G3401 - Veritas Quick-Release Front Vise

Our front vise has a simple on-off cam lever to engage or disengage the Acme-threaded screw, allowing it to apply up to 400 lb of force in either clamping or spreading applications.
The screw mechanism provides 12 1/4" of overall travel (less the thickness of your wooden jaw and bench apron). Tight body tolerances result in minimal jaw sag, even at full extension. An extruded aluminum screw cover keeps debris out of the screw mechanism and prevents the workpiece from contacting the lubricated screw.
Straightforward to install in new construction or as a retrofit to an existing bench, the vise requires an unobstructed mounting area on the underside of the bench top at least 12" wide by 16" deep (with a 2" thick bench apron and a 1 3/4" thick jaw). The body is ductile iron with zinc-alloy endplates, steel shafts and guide rods, and a maple handle. Mounting instructions and hardware included. Made in Canada. Patented.
Optional top-grain leather jaw liners are available separately.

Flip the quick-release lever from horizontal to vertical to disengage the half nut, slide the jaw to a new position, then flip the lever back to re-engage the threads.
Yes, it installs on new or existing workbenches, as long as there's an unobstructed area at least 12" wide by 16" deep under the top for the mechanism.
Yes, apply white grease to the main screw and a light oil to the half nut periodically; the guide rods have a self-lubricating surface treatment and don't need oiling, but avoid silicone-based lubricants on the main screw.
No, releasing the half nut on a loaded vise causes a sudden loss of clamping pressure, which can damage the vise or workpiece and injure you, so always relieve the load first.
