Make an Exposed-Stitch Hand-Bound Book

Make a one-of-a-kind book with the pages and cover bound together with a decorative stitch that is exposed at the spine. This technique allows the pages to lie flat when the book is open. The book is constructed with thread, mat board, decorative papers and acid-free paper. You will learn to measure, score and size paper, miter corners, make traditional bookbinding paste that is archival and non-toxic, and simple techniques to make bookbinding cloth. Books will be pressed in a bookbinding press during class. All tools and materials provided.
