CA Glues

CA (cyanoacrylate) glue is the industrial name for what is generally referred to as “super” glue. Developed in 1942 when scientists were attempting to design clear plastic gun sights for use in World War II, CA glues are versatile, quick-drying, strong-bonding adhesives that can be used with a wide range of materials including wood, plastic, metal, stone and ceramics, providing one of the materials being glued is porous. CA glue is a good choice for small repairs, as it is fast setting and will stick to old CA glue. It also works well for eliminating pinholes, or as crack or void filler when mixed with sawdust. Tinted versions can be used for a closer color match that works equally well for filling a wormhole or bark inclusion. CA glues come in a range of viscosities, each with different uses and drying times. Based on the viscosity (and ambient humidity), curing times will vary from around 10 seconds to just under a minute. The process can be sped up with the use of an accelerator.
