Carcass saws are good general-utility backsaws for cutting the typical joints used in cabinetry, trimming frame members to length, and cutting joints in drawer runners, dividers and stretchers (the framework or carcass of a piece). They are longer and have a deeper cut depth than dovetail saws, and are similar in function to a tenon saw but scaled to smaller work. Carcass saws normally have an ergonomic pistol-grip handle (either open or closed) that reduces strain and aids in achieving a stable motion when in use. They are available filed with either a crosscut tooth pattern for cutting across the grain or a rip pattern for cutting with the grain. Our assortment of carcass saws includes quality offerings from Veritas and Bad Axe, as well as a Veritas starter set.
