Dovetail Saws

Hand-cut dovetails are a mark of fine craftsmanship in woodworking, with the right saw helping provide precision and efficiency. Dovetail saws are smaller than either carcass or tenon saws and have a higher tooth per inch count. Primarily used for precise cuts when cutting dovetails and small tenon joints, they are filed in a rip configuration (though we do offer crosscut saws that are similar in form to a dovetail saw) with a minimal set that leaves a narrow kerf. Dovetail saws normally have an ergonomic pistol-grip handle (either open or closed) that reduces strain and aids in achieving a stable motion when in use. Though cutting dovetails tends to be the primary use of these saws, they are actually less a dedicated saw than they are a small saw that excels at cutting a variety of smaller joints, including dovetails. Our assortment of dovetail saws includes multiple offerings from Veritas, Bad Axe and Pax. Veritas dovetail starter sets are also available.
