Japanese Tapered Wooden Nails
Used for centuries in work ranging from furniture making to timber construction, wooden nails have a well-earned reputation as strong, versatile fasteners. These are made in Japan by Kakuri, a company that has specialized in traditional Japanese woodworking tools and supplies since 1946.
The tapered shank yields a wedging action that resists withdrawal, holding much more firmly than wooden dowels in both hardwoods and softwoods. Once driven and trimmed flush, the nails can be planed, sanded, stained or finished along with the surrounding wood. And since they lack flutes, applied glue is largely driven into the joint, producing a strong bond that requires minimal surface clean-up.
We recommend driving them in slightly undersize stepped holes. They are made in consistent sizes to permit a precise match with standard drill bit sizing.
This 96-piece assortment contains 30 each of the 35mm and 45mm sizes, 24 of the 60mm nails and 12 of the 88mm nails. The 35mm nails are made of birch; the rest are beech.
The 35mm (1 3/8") long nails have 3.5mm (approximately 9/64") heads, tapering to 1.8mm (approximately 1/16") at the tip.
The 45mm (1 3/4") long nails have 4.7mm (approximately 3/16") heads, tapering to 2.2mm (approximately 5/64") at the tip.
The 60mm (2 3/8") long nails have 5mm (approximately 13/64") heads, tapering to 2.5mm (approximately 3/32") at the tip.
The 88mm (3 1/2") long nails have 6mm (15/64") heads, tapering to 3mm (approximately 1/8") at the tip.
We also offer each of the four sizes in separate packages.
