Description

A great introduction to robotics, this kit lets kids build their own motorized machines that are operated by remote control through a smartphone or tablet, or by using a simple form of programming. Pictorial instructions show how to construct eight different robots, one at a time (turtle, rover, desert explorer, dancing bot, scout rover, helicopter, dozer and scorpion); the plastic parts snap together without tools and can be disassembled and reassembled as often as you like. Projects can be done progressively according to the difficulty rating given for each, and with a little practice, it's easy to come up with your own robotic creations.

By downloading a free app (requires Bluetooth 4.0 support with iOS devices running iOS 8.0 or later such as iPad 3 or later, iPad mini, iPhone 4S or later, and iPod touch 5 or later, or Android devices running Android 4.4 or later), you can control the robot right from the screen of your device through a wireless Bluetooth connection. You can also use the app to program the robot to respond to obstacles in its path, detected by an ultrasonic sensor that measures distance to the nearest object. The manual includes sample programs for each project and explains how to adapt your own variations.

The 233-piece kit includes two motors, a sensor and a Bluetooth receiver/transmitter. Requires three AA batteries (not included). Suitable for ages 8 and up. Compatible with the remote-controlled construction vehicles kit we sell.
