These precisely made scissors have an unusual advantage: they can be disassembled and resharpened at home using a HORL rolling sharpener.
A spring-loaded quick-release separates the scissors into two halves. Each half has three reference surfaces that let it stand at the correct 45° sharpening angle without the magnetic support normally used for knives. You simply roll the HORL sharpener along the exposed bevel, then repeat the process on the second blade.
This self-registering arrangement removes the uncertainty normally involved in sharpening scissors, whose edge geometry can be difficult to reproduce accurately by hand.
When the scissors are reassembled, the spring-loaded mechanism applies consistent tension between the blades, maintaining contact along the full length of the cutting edges. The cross-hatched grinding pattern helps the blades grip material rather than pushing it ahead of the cut, making the scissors suitable for materials ranging from paper and cardboard to fine fabric.
They measure 8 1/2" long overall, with 3 3/4" blades, and weigh just over 5 1/2 oz.
Designed specifically for sharpening with a HORL rolling sharpener. Other scissors generally have different bevel angles and should not be sharpened using the same method.
