This is the first of a four-volume compilation of articles by renowned woodworker Charles H. Hayward, reprinted with his original drawings, diagrams and photographs. As editor of the influential British magazine The Woodworker from 1939 to 1967, Hayward had a lasting impact on the craft, contributing a huge amount of writing on virtually every aspect of working with wood.
