There was a time when most tradesmen had a saw set as part of their basic tool kit, as setting handsaw teeth is usually required every few sharpenings to ensure the saw cuts an appropriate kerf. The last decent saw set we sold disappeared from the market several years ago.

The Veritas saw set incorporates the best features of quality classic sets in a single design, making it straightforward to set a wide range of saws with a single tool, from coarse-toothed full-size rip panel saws to joinery saws with teeth as fine as 28 tpi.

It has a two-stage spring-loaded mechanism. As the lever is squeezed, the mechanism advances to clamp the blade. Once this bottoms out, the ram advances, bending the tooth against the anvil. The amount of set is adjusted by changing the position of the anvil; you simply loosen the locking knob and turn the adjuster to move the anvil, then tighten the knob. A built-in cursor lets you make note of the anvil position for future setting of the same saw.

The lever and grip have been sized to make the set comfortable to hold and minimize hand fatigue, and the viewport has been widened for better visibility. The body is cast from ZA-12, a zinc-aluminum alloy as strong as cast iron but less brittle and 20% lighter. The ram and anvil are hardened steel, and the knobs are solid brass.
