Q: How do I switch from the cutting blade to the marking pin?
Loosen the set screw on the swivelling chuck, remove the blade with pliers, then insert the pin into the center hole and retighten the set screw to lock it in place.
3-in-1 brass marking gauge with cutting blade installed

This elegant marking gauge is really three tools in one — a wheel gauge, a pin gauge and a cutting gauge.
The unique swivelling pin/blade chuck takes either a pin or a blade that locks in place (after extension is set) using a set screw in the end of the 4 1/2" gauge stem. The cutting blade can be set for either right- or left-handed use. The opposite end of the stem is tapped to accept a 3/8" diameter wheel cutter.
The fence and the internal portion of the locking collet are a single eccentric brass turning. The collet fingers have just enough stem friction to hold a projection setting while you lock it in place with a half turn of the knurled locking sleeve. The 1" diameter fence is eccentric to maximize rub depth. A side benefit is that it also prevents the gauge from rolling off the workbench.
Comes complete with a dozen spare blades, two hardened steel pins, a wheel cutter and screw, and a hex key. Extra stems available separately for those who prefer to switch heads as quickly as possible.

An excellent tool that is a great buy.

Yes, the swivelling pin/blade chuck lets you set the cutting blade's angle for either right- or left-hand use before locking it with the set screw.
Break a new blade off the strip using two sets of pliers while wearing eye protection, then loosen the set screw, swap out the old blade and retighten once the projection is set.
The wheel cutter sits at the opposite end of the stem and works best for transferring dimensions such as tenon shoulder or mortise depth, while the cutting blade is suited to scoring a clean line directly on the workpiece; use the wheel cutter when you need to carry a measurement rather than mark it.
To keep this 3-in-1 brass marking gauge from tarnishing, wipe it clean and coat it with a silicone-free paste wax or other sealant occasionally, and use brass polish to restore the shine if it does dull.
