Making your own turning-tool handles lets you customize the grip profile, diameter, length and tool projection, add ballast to minimize vibration, or apply decorative detail.
Through-drilled to accept 3/8", 1/2" or 5/8" dia. round-shanked tools (3/8" size also accepts 5/16" shanks), these machined chromated-steel ferrules simplify fitting the tool to the handle, for a secure connection that allows quick tool changes without switching handles. They install in a stepped hole that requires one bit sized to match the tool shank diameter and another bit 1/4" larger to accommodate the ferrule. Two grub screws lock the tool into the ferrule, which mounts in the handle with epoxy.
