We made this carbide burnisher specifically for curved scrapers and fine detail scrapers where you need to use a sort of paring-knife action to roll an edge – your thumb on the scraper and four fingers drawing the burnisher along.
The 1/8" diameter polished carbide rod projects 3/4" from the hardwood handle, ideal for one-handed use. The carbide rod will never nick or groove regardless of pressure applied.

It is designed for curved scrapers and fine detail scrapers, where the burnishing action is more like a paring-knife stroke – your thumb rests on the scraper face while four fingers draw the burnisher along the edge. The 1/8" rod and 3/4" projection suit this technique.
No. Carbide is significantly harder than the spring steel used in cabinet scrapers, so the rod surface remains consistent and will not develop nicks or grooves even under firm, repeated pressure.
Conventional burnishers use hardened steel rods, which can develop grooves over time if they contact the scraper edge at an unfavourable angle. The carbide rod in this burnisher is inert to that kind of wear, and its smaller diameter is suited to the lighter, more controlled burnishing action needed for curved and detail scrapers.
