With this MIY kit, you’ll learn about the magic of Appalachian broom making, a satisfying skill perfected by broom squires and hobbyists for centuries. Using just your hands, some thread, bundles of processed natural broomcorn and a bit of elbow grease, you’ll make two styles of natural-fiber hand brooms – a round broom and a wing whisk – using traditional thread-wrapping techniques.

You will learn about sorting and preparing the broomcorn, using tension and decorative wrapping techniques to hold everything together securely, and finishing your brooms by trimming and shaping the ends.

This kit contains everything you need to make both brooms yourself, including reusable tools and supplies. A step-by-step video and a downloadable copy of the written instructions are also included. Components of the kit are listed under the Specifications tab.
