Description

During the 13th century in France, a game called paille-maille (derived from the Italian word pallamaglio, which means ball-mallet) became popular. It involved running a mallet-driven ball through a metal hoop to touch a goal peg. When it was introduced into England in the 16th century, the English renamed it pall-mall. In London, it gained great popularity as a sport in an alley near St. James's palace. The famous street in London, Pall Mall, was named after that nearby alley. By the 1800s, the game had changed somewhat as more wickets were added and it was renamed croquet.

Croquet now has strong followings all over the world. However, most croquet sets sold today are cheaply made and too short for adults. This hardwood, six-player set stands out from the crowd. It includes six maple mallets with 30" handles, two 24" goal posts, nine indestructible heavy steel wickets, six 3 1/4" polymer balls, a canvas storage bag and complete instructions.

This is one of the best croquet sets available. Makes a great gift.
