These hook knives are made near the small Swedish town of Mora, which has been famous for its knives for centuries. Designed for carving spoons and other hollowed forms, they are used to take controlled paring cuts when hollowing concave surfaces.
The stainless-steel blade has a compound sweep that permits both roughing and finishing cuts, depending on grip and where along the curve the cut is made. The relatively narrow blade profile minimizes chatter, so it’s easy to make clean cuts across changing grain.
The 4 1/4" oiled birch handle has a barrel-shaped profile for a sure, comfortable grip. Each knife is well sharpened, ready for use, and comes with a vegetable-tanned leather sheath.Â
Available in right-hand and left-hand models. While many carvers choose the version that suits their dominant hand, having both offers greater flexibility when working with difficult grain.
