10S1079 – Maple Leaf Carving Kit
BeaverCraft is a small manufacturer that has been producing well-made yet inexpensive carving tools in Kyiv, Ukraine, since 2014. Despite the enormous challenges of operating in a war zone, they continue to build both their product line and their reputation among woodcarvers.
Developed by BeaverCraft exclusively for Lee Valley, this kit provides everything you need to carve a decorative maple leaf – a distinctively Canadian project.
The 5" wide by 4 3/4" high by 9/16" thick linden blank comes pre-cut to the outline of a maple leaf, letting you concentrate on carving the surface contours, veins and other details. Linden wood was chosen instead of maple because its fine, even texture makes it much easier to carve.
The kit includes two palm-handled carving tools with comfortable ash handles: a 10mm #9 sweep gouge for making deeper cuts, and a 2mm #12 sweep V-tool for carving fine details. Both are supplied pre-sharpened and ready for use.
Also included are a leather strop and sharpening compound for maintaining the cutting edges, 150x and 320x sandpaper, a roll of high-friction guard tape to protect fingers and improve grip, and linseed oil for finishing the carving.
