Lee Valley Spoon Bits

With a brace shank and a business end reminiscent of an old, cast-iron bathtub, it hardly seems possible that a spoon bit would do anything at all, much less bore a clean, accurate hole. Yet that is precisely what these bits do.

This style of bit is greatly favored by chairmakers for two reasons. One, it will bore a hole with a round bottom. This allows maximum possible blind hole depth in a chair leg to receive a stretcher with no chance of a brad point or spur breaking through. But the most impressive feature of this kind of bit is that, in a single operation, you can bore an accurately sized and positioned hole at an acute angle, lower than possible with any other kind of bit.

Available in five sizes: 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 9/16" and 5/8". Just over 5 1/2" long overall, with a 3" blade. For use only in a two-jaw hand brace, all are heat-treated forged steel, and the edges have been hand finished to be ready to use.
