This set of three files from Nicholson includes a 10" mill bastard file, a 10" flat smooth file and a 6" extra-slim taper file.
The 10" single-cut mill bastard file is a versatile choice for shaping and sharpening. Its relatively coarse teeth remove material quickly, making it useful for removing nicks, shaping drawknives, hatchets and axes, and draw-filing cabinet scrapers.
The 10" flat smooth file has two intersecting diagonal rows of teeth and a finer cut than the bastard file. It removes material in a more controlled manner, making it well suited to sharpening tools that benefit from a keen but slightly toothed edge, such as hedge shears.
The fine extra-slim taper file is useful for deburring, cleaning up corners and filing saw teeth from 11 tpi to 12 tpi.
