These sets of three curved scrapers will handle a wide range of scraping jobs.
The rectangular model with convex/concave ends is excellent for bowl work or for scraping spindles.
The shmoo shape (easily recognizable to long-time readers of Li'l Abner) is equally useful for a wide range of concave surfaces as well as large moldings and small spindles.
The third style has two different gentle cambers that are perfect for stripping glue lines or flat work, or for localized scraping when you want a precise, controlled action without using a lot of thumb pressure (which can reduce sensitivity).
Available in 0.4mm (0.016") thickness for fine work and 0.6mm (0.024") for regular scraping. Rc48-52.
The set contains a rectangular scraper with convex and concave ends for bowl and spindle work, a shmoo-shaped scraper for concave surfaces and large moldings, and a dual-camber scraper with two different gentle curves suited to flat-work scraping and glue-line removal.
The 0.4mm thickness is for fine work where you need a light touch and high sensitivity – the thinner blade flexes more easily under thumb pressure. The 0.6mm thickness is for regular scraping and situations where more aggressive stock removal is useful.
These scrapers are hardened to Rc48-52, compared to Rc38-42 for most spring-steel cabinet scrapers. The additional hardness means the burnished edge lasts longer before the scraper needs to be refreshed.
The two gentle cambers allow controlled, localized scraping without needing to apply thumb pressure to bow the blade. This reduces hand fatigue during extended sessions and gives a more precise, sensitive cut on flat surfaces.
Curved scrapers are sharpened using a shaped burnisher or the Veritas Carbide Burnisher, which is sized for one-handed burnishing action on curved profiles.
