This good-quality deep-sweep roughing gouge represents excellent value. Milled from 6542 high-speed steel (an alloy similar to M2) and hardened to Rc60-62, it comes sharpened ready for use.
For work between centers, designed for converting square stock to round, the gouge is equally useful for smoothing cylinders and tapers. Measures about 22" overall with a substantial 16" long ash handle that is comfortable in the hand, allows excellent control, and provides significant leverage during heavy work.
Though this tool is ideal for the budget-conscious beginner, experienced turners will find it useful for experimenting with different grinds.
