Quantity:
Widely used in metal machining, M42 high-speed steel is also an excellent material for wood-turning tools. The “M” refers to molybdenum, which provides strength and toughness, but what really sets this alloy apart is the addition of 10% cobalt, allowing it to be hardened to a much greater degree than other HSS alloys. Additionally, these tools are cryogenically treated to further toughen them to prevent brittleness. The resulting tools take an excellent edge and are highly durable, making for clean cuts and less-frequent sharpening.
Used for parting off work between centers, this tool has a diamond-shaped cross-section to reduce binding and friction in the cut. Its 3/16" wide by 3/4" deep blade is 6 3/4" long and mounted to a 10" black-lacquered ash handle fitted with a copper ferrule. Hardened to Rc66-69.
Made by Crown in Sheffield, England, it is finely finished and comes with a lifetime guarantee.
