With regular use, even the best-made woodenware can dull over time. This kit has everything needed to restore cutting boards and other food-contact wood items to their original luster. An abrasive pad and two sheets of sandpaper are included to prepare the surface before refinishing. The Mirka Mirlon Total abrasive pad (360x) has a flexible, open structure that works quickly to remove raised grain or scuff between coats. Resistant to typical wood-finishing solvents, it conforms to curves and contours, and rinses clean with water. The Mirka Gold sandpaper sheets in 100x and 220x grits let you gently sand out nicks and scratches. Made in Finland.
For conditioning and protecting wood, the kit includes 8 oz (237ml) of cutting board oil and 3 oz (89ml) of finishing wax. Made by Walrus Oil, they are blends of beeswax, coconut oil and mineral oil that meet FDA standards for food safety. (Despite the name, no walrus oil is used in these products.) A single coat of oil is all that’s needed to yield a protective matte finish. Simply let it soak and wipe away the excess. The finishing wax can be applied on its own or on top of the oil for added sheen and protection against moisture.
