This is not your regular hardware-store variety steel wool. Made by a third-generation family business in Europe, this steel wool is specifically intended for use in restoration and the refinement of surface treatments on wood.
Two features make this type of steel wool a particularly valuable product for woodworking.
First, it is completely free from oil, so it will not mark wood, interact with finishes or leave a film on any surface. Second, it is manufactured in very long strands from top-grade steel and is highly resistant to crumbling. For example, you can use this steel wool for work on the lathe without it pulling apart in your hands.
We offer it in three grades: medium (00), fine (000) and extra-fine (0000). Each is supplied in a 200g skein or a 1kg continuous roll. We also offer a combined set containing one 200g skein of each of the three grades.
Generally, the medium is used for stripping finishes, the fine for surface preparation, and the extra-fine for final rub-out of an oil- or wax-based finish.*
Highly recommended.
* Steel wool is NOT recommended for use with water-based finishes!
