Walrus Oil Products
Founded in the U.S. by woodworker Dave Darr in 2017, Walrus Oil makes solvent-free products that are safe and easy to use and produce excellent results. From their initial offering of wood finishes, their line has expanded to include cutting board soap, axe oil, leather care products and more. Walrus Oil donates a portion of the proceeds from sales of their products to environmental initiatives. (Despite the company name, no actual walruses are involved in the making of these products.)
Worked on a flat piece of wood, relief carving involves sculpting three-dimensional designs that appear to stand out from the surface or are incised into the wood. An excellent entry style into the world of carving, it primarily requires chisels, gouges and knives to create depth and texture. Relief carving books for beginners provide basic instruction as well as starter patterns and projects. As your skills improve, books with more complex projects and designs are available.
