Hock Replacement Plane Blades

Replacement Plane Blades

A new blade is one of the best ways to give new life to an old tool.

For those who want to upgrade their classic hand tools, we offer a good range of high-quality Hock replacement blades in high-carbon steel (HCS) and cryogenically treated A2 steel to fit the numbered series of Stanley/Record-compatible bench planes and block planes, as well as blades for wooden and steel-bodied spokeshaves.

Hock blades are thicker and better finished than OEM blades, and the blade sets have thicker cap irons.

HCS (O1) steel is oil quenched and has few alloying elements and a fine grain structure to allow honing to the keenest possible edge.

A2 steel is an air-hardening steel that adds chromium and molybdenum to increase toughness and abrasion resistance. The alloying elements promote the formation of carbides that are much harder and tougher than the surrounding steel. If your bevel angle is too low, the carbides may not be supported enough by the surrounding steel and can break away.

Choose HCS for the keenest (but less durable) edge or for low bevel-angle applications. Choose A2 for its durability but steeper bevel angles.
