Finding the Right Tormek Wheel
The Tormek sharpening systems offer versatility in the two-step sharpening process, beginning with sharpening on the grinding wheels followed by adding a fine polish with a honing wheel. Tormek offers a full range of wheels specifically designed to suit your purpose.
- Silicon Carbide Wheel: Designed for aggressive material removal in tougher alloys, it can be used for edge sharpening or honing at the equivalent of 1000x. Compatible with the T-7 or T-8 sharpening machine.
- Japanese Water Stone Wheel: The Japanese water stone wheel is designed for woodcarving tools and is useful for final honing, providing a mirror finish at the equivalent of 4000x.
- Diamond Wheels: Available in three grits (coarse, fine and extra-fine), these are an excellent choice for sharpening all types of ceramic and steel blades but are especially effective for working with tough alloys.
- Composite Honing Wheel: The composite wheel is excellent for polishing and removing burrs from your tools between sharpenings. The use of a honing compound is not needed, as the polish is integrated into the wheel itself.
- Leather Honing Wheel: The leather honing wheel is ideal for polishing and removing burrs from your tools to maintain their sharpness. Used with a honing compound (sold separately).
