A T-nut is a fastener with a flanged barrel and prongs that press into a material's surface, holding a threaded point in place so it can't spin the way a loose nut would.

Generally used for softer materials and composites, these six-prong nuts have 3/4" diameter flanges with a 5/16" barrel height and a 7/32" prong height. A 5/16" pre-drill is recommended.

Drill a 5/16" pilot hole, then press or tap the flange flush so the six prongs bite into the surface. These six-prong T-nuts (1/4-20 thread) are sized for softer woods and composites and accept a 1/4-20 bolt right away.
Support the workpiece from behind and tap the flange in evenly so all six prongs seat at once, since composites and softer stock can crush unevenly under one-sided pressure. Drive it flush before threading in a bolt.
