10S1076 - Kuksa Cup Carving Set
Quantity:
BeaverCraft is a small manufacturer that has been producing well-made yet inexpensive carving tools in Kyiv, Ukraine, since 2014. Despite the enormous challenges of operating in a war zone, they continue to build both their product line and their reputation among woodcarvers.
With this kit, you can carve your own kuksa cup, a traditional Scandinavian folk carving. Originally used by the nomadic Sámi people of Norway, Sweden and Finland for harvesting berries, kuksas have been widely adopted across Europe as drinking vessels for camping, hiking and other outdoor pursuits. Please note that this is a moderately challenging project not intended for beginner carvers.
The kit includes a slöyd-style knife with a 3" blade and a short bent gouge with a 1/2" wide blade. Supplied sharpened and honed, ready for use, the high-carbon steel blades allow precise, controlled cuts.
The 5 7/8" long, 2" thick roughed-out wooden blank is made of European walnut, chosen for its straight grain and because its natural dark color masks discoloration from the tannins in coffee, tea and wine. The kit also provides a food-safe beeswax and mineral oil blend for finishing the cup, as well as a leather lanyard, sharpening abrasive, honing compound, a leather strop, a roll of high-friction guard tape to protect fingers and improve grip, a pencil and a detailed instruction booklet that includes a QR code that links to an online video showing every step.
