Waxes

Waxes can be grouped into three broad categories: furniture waxes, food-safe conditioning waxes and conservation waxes. While all enhance appearance and provide a degree of protection, each is formulated for a different purpose. Furniture Waxes Designed for finished furniture, boxes, turnings and decorative projects, these waxes add luster, enrich color and provide a renewable layer of protection against handling and everyday wear. Walrus Oil furniture wax combines natural waxes and oils to enhance figure, deepen the wood’s tone, and leave a smooth, low-luster finish. It is well suited to both new projects and refreshing older furniture. Clapham’s beeswax polish is a traditional furniture wax that buffs easily to a soft sheen. Ideal for fine furniture and antiques, it helps maintain finished surfaces while preserving their appearance and feel. Food-Safe Waxes These waxes are intended for finishing and maintaining cutting boards, butcher blocks, salad bowls and other food-contact items. Rather than forming a hard film, they help condition the wood, repel moisture, and refresh surfaces that have become dry through use and washing. Clapham's beeswax salad bowl finish is a blend of beeswax and mineral oil that enriches the color of the wood, leaving a natural, low-sheen finish. A mixture of beeswax and coconut oil, Walrus Oil cutting board wax helps protect the wood while only slightly darkening it, making it a good choice when you want to preserve the wood's natural appearance. Orange wax combines beeswax and harder carnauba wax to produce a more durable finish than beeswax alone. It is particularly well suited to pieces that benefit from added water resistance, greater durability and a higher sheen. Conservation Waxes Conservation waxes are formulated to provide long-term protection while remaining compatible with valuable or historic objects. Lee Valley Conservator's Wax is a refined microcrystalline wax developed for protecting wood, metal, leather, ceramics and other materials. Favored for restoration and preservation work, it provides a thin protective barrier against moisture, fingerprints and contaminants while imparting only a subtle sheen.
