Veritas Low-Angle Jack PlaneMade in Canada

Quantity:

Our low-angle jack plane is ideal for shooting miters, working end grain, jointing edges and initial smoothing. It has a generous size and weight, low center of gravity and radically set-back mouth. It is a bevel-up plane, with a 12° bed angle similar to a low-angle block plane.

Used with the standard 25° blade, it has an effective cutting angle of 37°. Optional lapped 38° and 50° blades give you the ability to change the effective cut angle with a simple blade swap. Coarse, medium and fine-toothed A2 blades are also available for working difficult grain and knots, leaving witness marks during initial flattening, or creating a toothed surface for veneering.

The plane is 15" long by 2 7/8" wide and weighs just shy of 6 lb. You will appreciate the way this plane (with an enclosed toe that is one third the length of the sole) registers to the workpiece. The body is fully stress-relieved ductile cast iron. With sides machined square to the sole, it has a specially shaped lever cap and machined thumb recesses on either side of the body that provide a comfortable grip for shooting.

The mouth can be closed to a narrow slit for fine shavings with minimum tear-out or opened for heavier cuts. All this can be set quickly and accurately with the front locking knob and the unique mouth adjustment screw. The large hardwood front knob and rear handle provide a comfortable grip. The Norris-style mechanism, with its combined feed and lateral adjustment, makes blade setting easy and accurate. The set screws on either side of the blade prevent it from shifting in use without compromising lateral positioning.

Threaded holes on the plane’s sides allow the attachment of the Veritas Technical Fence, Variable-Angle Fence or Shooting Grip (all sold separately).

Includes a lapped 25° blade (2 1/4" wide by 3/16" thick) in your choice of A2, O1 or PM-V11 tool steel. Honing instructions for various cutting angles are included.

Patented. Made in Canada.
