Q: What kind of sanding is this thin interface pad best suited for?
It's developed for light profile sanding, paint preparation, primer or E-coat sanding, and top- and clear-coat work, where a thin, controlled cushion is enough.
08K1924 - Mirka 67-Hole 6" × 1/8" Interface Pad
The 6" diameter by 1/8" thick multi-hole interface pad is used in combination with grip sanding discs for sanding rounded surfaces and contours.
The pad was developed to be used for light profile sanding, paint preparation sanding, factory primer (E-coat) sanding and top- and clear-coat sanding.
Using the interface pad also produces a more consistent and even result. The interface pad is placed between the backing pad and the sanding disc.

It lets dust pass through the pad to the backing pad and disc behind it, keeping the surface clear during light sanding work.
Not really, since the Mirka 67-hole 6 × 1/8 interface pad is only 1/8" thick and built for light profile and finish work rather than pronounced curves; a thicker interface pad gives more cushioning for deeper contours.
