Maintaining a well-stocked feeding station, particularly in winter, is a sure way to attract birds to your yard. This practical combination includes a sturdy feeder made of powder-coated steel that has a wide opening in the top for easy filling and collapses to lie flat for off-season storage. To help with filling, we’ve added a seed scoop that also serves as a convenient dispensing funnel for feeders that have narrower openings, minimizing mess and waste from spilled seeds.

Collapsible Bird Feeder

Providing plenty of dining space for several birds, this feeder holds up to 2 1/2 lb of black-oil sunflower seeds, the food of choice for many birds. They can cling to the mesh sides or perch on the 11 1/2" diameter tray that also helps catch spilled seeds.

Funneling Bird Seed Scoop

Made of sturdy, UV-stable plastic, this scoop makes neat work of refilling tube-style bird feeders. Rather than attempting to pour seeds from the wide rim of the scoop into the narrow feeder opening, simply tip the scoop vertically and insert the 1" diameter handle into the top of the feeder. Moving a sliding latch at the scoop base opens a port that allows seed to flow through the handle.

The National Audubon Society gives these tips to help stop the spread of bird diseases such as avian flu. Clean feeders and bird baths with a solution of nine parts water to one part bleach every two weeks. Use multiple feeders to make it easier for birds to feed at a distance from each other, and remove feces and seed casings from below feeders regularly.
